[MittleiderMethodGardening] Pollinating Tomatoes and Peppers

After watching the short video on pollinating, https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=ewR0DWmKw1A&feature=share in which I said little about tomatoes, and nothing about peppers, a Group member asked me to explain more about pollinating  those two plants

Here is my response:

The short answer is that peppers, like tomatoes, are self-pollinating, because they have both male and female parts in the same flower.  Therefore even slight movement of the plant and its blossoms when they are receptive accomplishes the transfer of the pollen from the male stamen to the female organ called the pistil (comprised of the stigma, style, and ovary)..

If the plant is stressed so that it is not self-pollinating adequately, or if you want to pollinate for some other reason here is a good article on how to pollinate peppers.  https://www.gardeningknowhow. com/edible/vegetables/pepper/ hand-pollinating-peppers.htm

Now, if you're a serious grower who wants to HYBRIDIZE your tomatoes, by crossing one variety with another variety, the process is more complex.  Here is an article, along with pictures, to teach that process.  http://tgrc.ucdavis.edu/ Guidelines_Emasculating_and_ Pollinating_Tomatoes.pdf
